How Do Myers-Briggs (MBTI Test) INTJ Personality Types Deal with Change?

Responding to Organizational Changes as an INTJ Personality Type
Individuals who assess as the MBTI® Personality Type INTJ (Introverted-Intuitive-Thinking-Judging), are generally visionaries who have an innate confidence to enhance and execute innovative solutions. Their insight will often allow for the development of conceptualizations which may be overlooked by others. They have been known to view changes within their organization as groundbreaking occurrences paving the way for success, especially in the regard to objective goals. Their personal perception of their organization and work culture is generally both idealistic and compelling.

When an INTJ is placed in a situation where changes are occurring, they commonly will fall into positions of leadership. This may be due to their heightened intuitive demeaner and their capacity for creating and carrying out innovative solutions. INTJs will commonly approach change with a systematic method. They generally will do so by evaluating the situation, then by brainstorming possible solutions, by assimilating any adaptations to fit their personal frame of mind, and finally to act on a plan to carry out the changes, specifically for others and for future organizational needs. However, if proposed alterations to an INTJs daily routine do not fit into representation they have created for their future, this personality type has a tendency to become impatient, headstrong, and inflexible.
INTJ Personality Types are often valuable to an organization during a time of change. These individuals have shown this by displaying several common behaviors. They are often the people who move forward with confidence, carefully nudging their peers and coworkers along. When INTJs are told about a development to be implemented, they often will want to begin right away. This personality type will generally be leaders in their organization, with an addictive energy which others have said to be motivating and encouraging. Nevertheless, this personality type also has pitfalls (just as with any other personality type) during a time of change. For example, an INTJ may have a tendency to “Sometimes act impetuously, proceeding by leaps, skipping stages or steps and moving through the transition period too quickly” (Barger and Kirby, p.31, 2004, CPP Inc.) INTJs also may become impatient with others who do not navigate through the changes with the ease that they often possess.

Sometimes it is best for INTJ Personality Types to detach themselves from their peers and coworkers to allow themselves for optimal results during a time of change. They commonly are skilled at removing work tasks from emotions, and generally will find this to be an easy transition. INTJs also often are masterful at accepting the reality of a situation and can easily tune in to the key requirements which coincide with proposed amendments. Their energy is commonly geared toward innovation and possibility. Likewise, individuals who assess with the INTJ Personality Type are known for marketing these changes to their colleagues by promoting the advantages coinciding with change and the effects involving them personally.
It will be helpful for INTJs to have certain personality related needs met during a time of change. These individuals generally prefer to be included during the development phase. This may even include them to desire the “opportunity to take on a leadership role”. (Barger and Kirby, p.31, 2004, CPP Inc.) They are known for not wanting to be told what to do, but to instead play an active role in creating policies for others. Having the opportunity to figure out solutions for themselves often can lead an INTJ Personality Type to feel accomplished and satisfied in their work environment. They may be the type of person who is always looking for ways to make policies and procedures better. During a time of change, INTJs generally will be focused on improving the company bottom line, or the grand scheme of events leading to a common end goal. If they are delayed with specifics, they may become irritated, discouraged and withdraw themselves from the planning process. INTJs may also experience agitation when others cannot get “on board” with the proposed changes, especially if they have been implemented based on the INTJ’s personal vision. When this happens, INTJ Personality Types have been known to ignore other’s ideas and to even “critically attack those who are leading in the wrong direction”. (Barger and Kirby, p.31, 2004, CPP Inc.) As long as an INTJ is surrounded with team members who are committed to the changes their organization is introducing, they will generally have no trouble assisting with any issues which may arise during its implementation. INTJs usually show nothing less than efficacy during an organizational transformation.
