Strong Interest Inventory® Artistic Theme Code Education: Post-Secondary Teachers Career

Post-Secondary Education Teachers fall into the Artistic Theme Code Category of the Strong Interest Inventory®. The Strong Interest Inventory® and its associated assessment have been used since their release in 1927, to help job seekers find careers that are both fulfilling and potentially profitable. This system assesses individuals’ attributes and then recommends a number of careers that may be a good fit, based on the shared interests and preferences of people already in those fields. Post-Secondary Education Teachers might also be called Adjunct Instructors or Lecturers. Many Post-Secondary Education Teachers also take on significant administrative responsibilities. For example, they may participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement. This includes organizing orientations and interviews for prospective students. They may also maintain student attendance records, grades and other academic documentation; supervise student fieldwork or teaching placements; and/or serve on various committees, as department head or as a university liaison.

In order to be successful, such instructors use a number of different audiovisual and presentation tools, including computers, cameras, projectors and more. They may also use office or clerical hardware and software, such as fax machines, conference phones, photocopiers, and the like. Most software that they use is standard, including Microsoft Office Suite and web browser software, though they may also use communications software like Zoom, data analysis software like SPSS or SAS, or learning management systems. Additional qualitative and quantitative data analytics software may be used, depending on the exact nature of their research. Image scanning software or data entry software may also be necessary for documenting student work, attendance, grades, etc.

Post-Secondary Education Teachers almost always hold a doctorate—over 90% hold a Ph.D. in order to be qualified to teach at the university level. A small minority hold a Master’s degree in the subject (9%), and just a handful hold a bachelor’s (1%). The prestige of their alma mater and their particular degree may influence their wages and employment. In addition, they need to be experts in their subject, while also having exceptional organization and communication skills. Post-Secondary Education Teachers will also find it helpful to have experience developing and delivering instructional content and conducting research in scholarly settings.

The average Post-Secondary Education Teachers Salary is $64,780 per year. Many factors affect this salary, including the city and state in which their institution is located, as well as the prestige of the institution itself. For example, instructors in California and the mid-Atlantic region (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, etc.) have a median income of nearly $80,000, while the most highly paid instructors can easily earn over $100,000. On the other hand, in Oklahoma for example, the median is just $51,090. Employment is expected to increase steadily—up to 10% in the next decade. The five most populous states (New York, California, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida) are projected to add over 2,000 jobs all together in coming years.
