Insurance adjusters, examiners, and investigators evaluate the liability of insurance companies in particular exchanges. To do so, they often communicate with witnesses, specialists, clients, or other individuals or agencies to gather information about the case and to determine its financial implications. Doing these calculations accurately can require agents to examine documents, such as police reports, medical records, photographs, and other pieces of evidence, and interview or consult different claimants or related professionals.    Insurance adjusters, examiners, and investigators may also negotiate with agents and claimants to come to an optimal solution, or, if necessary, to go to court. After their case is closed, these professionals prepare reports or presentations summarizing their case to other members of their team or for their firm’s administration or partners.

Being successful insurance adjusters, examiners, and investigators involves the use of a variety of different kinds of tools and software. For instance, analytical software will help them detect fraudulent documents or images that may be used as evidence. They also utilize financial analysis and document management software and databases like QwikQuote, AMS360 BCCORP Burkitt W5, and others in order to properly compile evidence, calculate its financial implications for their firm, and develop and deliver presentations and reports to their supervisors. Additionally, they need to be able to use portable computing devices, such as laptops, smart phones, and tablets in many different settings.

Since these reports must be accurate and timely, insurance adjusters, examiners, and investigators need to have highly developed language skills in addition to an understanding of legal issues. They may also need a foundation in mathematics, economics, or finance, depending on the demands of their particular position. They often have on-the-job or vocational training, but many insurance adjusters, examiners, and investigators have either bachelor’s degrees or some form of higher education.

ENTP’s are particularly well suited for careers as insurance adjusters, examiners, and investigators because they enjoy working in fast-paced challenging environments and because this career is based on problem solving and is highly dynamic, ENTP’s can be constantly engaged and developing new skills.
