MBTI® Test ENTP Advertising Sales Agents

Strong Interest Inventory® General Occupational Theme Code: Enterprising, Conventional, Artistic (ECA) (GOT)

Hammer (1996) writes that Extraverted-Intuitive-Thinking-Perceiving (ENTP) Myers-Briggs Test Personality Types do their best in positions where they have the opportunity to continuously encounter, learn about, and solve new challenges in the workplace. They also excel at processing large amounts of information at once, but are able to report it in a concise and comprehensible manner. As a result of these factors, among others, MBTI test ENTP’s can be well suited in careers such as advertising sales agents.

Advertising sales agents help media outlets like newspapers and television channels, or these days’ even websites, find companies or individuals who are interested in purchasing advertising space on their venue. This involves not only an intimate knowledge of the kinds of options and products that their company or outlet can provide, but also the ability to explain to customers how these particular options can help them reach their target audience. Advertising sales agents also need to be able to maintain professional relationships with such clients, provide them with price estimates and samples, and work with them to actually construct their advertisement. This might involve creating or designing drafts and proofs of ads, preparing promotional plans, drawing up contracts, and being able to contact additional prospective advertisers.

Successful advertising sales agents need to have mastered the use of many different kinds of computing and communications hardware, including desktop and notebook computers, smart phones, tablets, scanners, and multi-line telephone systems. They also can confidently and efficiently use a variety of different user interface and query software, including FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Access, and Oracle (note that the precise software used may differ from company to company). They may also need to be able to use desktop publishing software like Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress. In addition to all of these more specialized software, advertising sales agents also need to be able to comfortably use office staples like Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), as well as other word processing and spreadsheet software.

Advertising sales agents must have a working knowledge of media and communications as well as computing and electronics. Furthermore, they need to be able to comfortably communicate in English with their supervisors, customers, and other members of the advertising team, and be able to negotiate with others and express themselves clearly, politely, and succinctly in a variety of different settings and with a variety of different purposes.
