Instructional Coordinators are responsible for managing the educational content of various educational institutions. While they may at some time advise and teach students, they are generally more focused on curriculum design, teacher training, and the evaluation of educational initiatives. For instances, instructional coordinators develop curriculum materials, and organize their production and design. They may also recommend to schools or other programs which materials are the best suited to their students’ needs. Sometimes, they even make the purchases themselves. Instructional coordinators also plan and implement teacher training programs and conferences that educate teachers on the most effective ways to use new materials in the classroom. Finally, they develop strategies for evaluating the efficacy of such programs. Some Instructional Coordinators also stay abreast of the constantly-changing state and regional educational codes and requirements of local boards.

In order to be able to complete their jobs effectively, Instructional Coordinators need to have developed a mastery of basic technological devices, including smart phones, laptop computers, photocopiers, scanners, and audio players or recorders (like mp3 players, or smart phones). They also need to be comfortable using smart boards, projection hardware, and other kinds of interactive materials. In addition, a comfort with Microsoft excel, adobe Photoshop, Microsoft word, PowerPoint, and other graphics software often facilitates the design and dissemination of various materials.

Instructional Coordinators need a knowledge of the principles of education and teaching methods, as well as a strong background in the language of instruction (generally English) in order to be successful. They also need a mastery of the subject they are teaching, and the technological tools to disseminate their knowledge and materials. Finally, they need to be able to adequately express themselves in English in a way that will facilitate teachers and administrators supporting and using their methods and curricula.

Instructional coordinators generally require graduate degrees in addition to significant teaching or vocational experience. This graduate degree may be a MA or MSEd, or in some cases an MD, PhD, or JD depending on the subjects being taught.

A passion for working with people is impossible to teach. These more innate talents are much of the reason that ENFJ’s are inclined to become instructional coordinators
