Child care workers often find themselves performing a large range of tasks at their respective job locations such as schools, private households, and childcare institutions. These tasks can include keeping records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, and medications administered. Individuals in this ENFJ career path will also dress children, change diapers, and sanitize play toys and equipment. Child care workers can also be found supporting children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts. They also spend a fair amount of their time identifying signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bringing them to parents’ or guardians’ attention. Child care workers also communicate with children’s parents or guardians about daily activities, behaviors, and related issues. Similarly, they instruct children in health and personal habits, such as eating, bathing, and toilet habits.

The variety of tools necessary to complete these tasks will vary by location, but will relate to each task. Tools may include washing machines, first aid kits, oral medical syringes, and may also include some technical tools like computers and photocopiers. In certain positions knowledge of computer scheduling and processing software may also be important.

The areas of knowledge that are important for a career as a child care worker include but are not limited to; knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training, first aid knowledge, as well as a general knowledge of human behavior and performance.

This ENFJ career path tends to attract individuals with a strong service orientation and sense of social perceptiveness. As these individuals will work with children of various ages and developmental levels, it is beneficial if participants are able to express themselves clearly and have an elevated level of speech recognition among those that are less developed. Individuals entering this career path should be highly dependable, good natured and cooperative while also being able to maintain self-control and integrity even under stressful scenarios.
